RULES/REGULATIONS

Behavior:

The cheerleaders are a representation of Opelousas Junior High and therefore it is expected for them to remain on their best behavior not only while in the public eye at football and basketball games, but also throughout their everyday practice.  Cheerleaders who receive behavioral referrals for acting out in the classroom will be asked to leave the squad.

 

Academic Standing:

Cheerleaders must maintain a GPA of at least a 2.5 throughout the season.  If a cheerleader’s GPA drops below a 2.5 at any point during the season they will be placed on academic probation and will be prohibited from cheering at any games until either a progress report or a report card proves the cheerleaders academic improvement.  If no improvement is seen in the cheerleader’s GPA by either the next progress report or the next report card, the cheerleader will be asked to leave the squad.

 

Practices/Games:

Opelousas Junior High’s cheerleading squad performs during both football and basketball games; therefore, our season lasts from August to February.  Cheerleaders are expected to attend practice TWO times a week during the season.  Practice is held at Opelousas Junior High from 3:30-5:00pm. The days of the week that practice will be held will vary depending on the football and basketball game schedule.   Cheerleaders must have a parent/guardian fill out a consent form agreeing to provide transportation to and from all practices and games.  If parents/guardians regularly retrieve students late from practices and games, students will be asked to leave the squad.  Cheerleaders are expected to bring appropriate practice clothing to practice each day and bring complete uniform to school each game day. 

 

Parental Consent:

A parent/guardian of each cheerleader must sign a parental consent form agreeing to provide transportation to and from all practices and games.  The parental consent form will also allow the parent/guardian a chance to volunteer to transport cheerleaders to football games during the fall season.  ****Follow this link to view the parental consent form.  Forms will also be distributed at tryouts.

 

Uniforms:

Uniforms are provided for each cheerleader.  Uniforms are school property and must therefore be kept tidy.  At football and basketball games the cheerleaders are representing Opelousas Junior High and therefore are expected to dress in a complete uniform that is clean, well cared for and that fits appropriately.  All uniforms must be returned at the end of the season.  If a cheerleader fails to return a uniform or a part of a uniform, they will be charged accordingly.
